FAQ

Connectivity:

1. Q: I have been able to download Mxit, but after registering/logging in Mxit just gets up to opening and then I receive the following error message "Mxit Login / Registration failed: This could be because the Mxit services is unavailable or GPRS service is not setup and available. Go to http://forum.Mxit.com or http://http://m.Mxit.com from your mobile for more help." What can I do to solve this problem?

A: Make the following changes to your phone’s setup:

1. Select "Menu"
2. Select "Games & Apps"
3. Scroll to Mxit (don't open Mxit)
4. Select "Settings"
5. Select "Permissions"
6. Select "Network Related"
7. Select "Connectivity options"
8. Select "Ask once per app"

If you still can’t log in to Mxit then try setting up your GPRS connection manually, do the following:

1. Go to "Menu" - "Web Access" - "Web Sessions" (this may be "Menu" - "Vlive" - "Internet profiles" on your phone)
2. Scroll to " [New Entry] "

Make sure the settings which you just created is set as your phone's default settings:

4. Select "Set as default"

Downloading:

2. Q: While I’m busy downloading Mxit the download gets to about 50% and then just stops. Why does this happen?

A: Try the following, open your phone's default wap browser, clear the browser's cache, turn off your phone, turn on your phone. Open your phone's default wap browser, go to http://m.Mxit.com and download Mxit again.

3. Q: When I try to download Mxit a get the following error message “503:Server not responding”. What can I do to solve this problem?

A: Try to start your phone's GPRS settings from scratch, delete all your phone's GPRS. Then follow the steps in the first post of this thread on how to setup your GPRS settings and Mxit.

4. Q: When I try to download Mxit I get the following error message “Fail to download”. What can I do to solve this problem?

A: Try to install Mxit to your phone’s memory and not the phone’s memory card.

5. Q: When I try to download Mxit, everything moves along nicely, until I need to type in the code in the image box, the image just does not load. What can I do to view the image code?

A: Please ensure that you are using your phone's default wap browser (not Opera or anything similar) when downloading Mxit. Please also check your wap browser's setup - make sure that your wap browser is set to download images:

1. Open your phone's default wap browser.
2. Go to "Browser Settings" - "Multimedia" - "Image"
3. Select "On:display"

Misc. Mxit and phone related questions:

6. Q: Why don’t I have any sounds in Mxit?

A: Firstly, make a change to your phone's settings:

On your phone's menu, go to "Menu" ""Settings" ""Java Settings" " "App Volume" and select option 6.

Then, adjust the alerts settings in Mxit:
1. Open Mxit
2. Go to "Menu"
3. Select "Settings"
4. Select "Alerts"
5. Select the alert you want to adjust (eg. "Incoming messages" )
6. Tick the box next to the sound, which you would like.

7. Q: File access is supported in Mxit, but when I click send file a blank screen appears. Why is it doing this?

A: Motorola phone’s does support the file access API (JSR-75 FileConnection), but unfortunately it is classed as a protected API which means that it can only be used by a signed application (and one need to get the certificate from Motorola). That is why even though Motorola phone’s have the file access API (as evident from 'File access: Yes' in About screen) it cannot be used by Mxit.

We are investigating the possibility of getting Mxit signed for Motorola phones, which would allow file access, but this is a process that will probably still take a good while (if successful at all).

8. Q:Why do I have to change my phone’s writing language each time I want to write a message in Mxit?

A: In Mxit do the following:

1. Go to any contact e.g. info
2. Select "Chat"
3. Select "Write"
4. Select "Menu"
5. select "Enter setup"
6. At primary setup select”TAP English" or "iTAP English"
7. At secondary setup select "TAP English" or "iTAP English"

9. Q: My phone does not want to log in automatically although all the check boxes are ticked which says login automatically and remember password. What can I do to solve this problem?

A: Delete Mxit from your phone, and then follow the steps in the first post of this thread to setup Mxit from scratch

10. Q: While using Mxit large sums are being deducted from my airtime. Why is this happening?

A: It might be possible that your phone is making an CSD connection. Please do the following to prevent your phone from making CSD connections in future:

1. On your phone, go to "Menu" - "Web Access" - "Web Sessions" (this may be "Menu" - "Vlive" - "Internet profiles" on your phone)
2. Scroll to your phone's current default internet profile.
3. Press the "Menu" button
4. Select "Edit"
5. Clear the "CSD No.1" and "CSD No.2" fields
6. Select "Done"

11. Q: My phone keeps on switching off and restarts while I’m busy on Mxit. Why is my phone doing this?

A: It sounds like your phone is running out of Dynamic Memory (like RAM in a PC). You can try to delete your Mxit skin (if any installed) and try to delete some contacts to free up some Dynamic Memory

12. Q: Why can’t I send photos in Mxit?

A: Motorola phones only let signed (or "Trusted") applications access their camera and file system. Unfortunately signed versions of Mxit aren't available for Motorola phones though. As a result your phone doesn't allow Mxit access to your phone's camera or its file system. We may at some stage release a signed version of Mxit for Motorola phones, but this is unfortunately not likely to happen in the near future.

13. Q: If I’m inactive for 30 seconds and then send a message Mxit reconnects and has to login again. What can I do to solve this problem?

A: Please make a change to your phone's default internet profile:
1. On your phone, go to "Menu" - "Web Access" - "Web Sessions" (this may be "Menu" - "Vlive" - "Internet profiles" on your phone)
2. Scroll to your phone's default internet profile
3. Press the "Menu" button
4. Select "Edit"
5. Change the "Timeout" setting to 10 minutes
6. Select "Done"

14. Q: In Mxit I get the following error message “001 unable to complete operation, try again later”. What can I do to solve this problem?

A: Delete Mxit from your phone, and then follow the steps in the first post of this thread to setup Mxit on your phone from scratch.

15. Q: When I install Mxit, my phone says that it is not a signed application. What does that mean?

A: That message simply indicates that the version of Mxit that you are installing is not digitally signed. If you aren't familiar with digital signatures, please read through the following:  Digital Signature

16. Q: When I'm on Mxit, the screen light/backlight stays on all the time. How can I turn it off?

A: Try changing your phone's "App Backlight" to another setting and see if you still have problems:

1. On your phone, go to "Menu" - "Settings" - "Java settings" - "App Backlight"
2. Change the current setting to something else.

Then try Mxit. If you still have problems try another "App Backlight" setting and try Mxit again.
