Has anyone from the MXit team contacted Sony Ericsson about the Sony Ericsson W205 MXit problem?

Hi I have a problem with a Sony Ericsson P800

I am able to install Mxit perfectly, but when trying to register it doesn't let me input a Phone number nor can I choose a Country.

I can however choose a Pin but that doesn't help. Please assist?

    Thanks

    greetings,

This is not neccessarily Sony's problem. The problem may lay with the service providers customization of the OS. As some W205's work and some don't.

You are welcome to contact Sony, Or your service provider and ask about a firmware upgrade. I have heard that Vodacom already has one for this phone.

    Greetings,

The Sony P800 is a Symbian phone. S60 to be exact, same as the nokia 6600 7610. This older version of Symbian did not have java built in but was added as a third party application. Try MXit 5.8.2 and see if that helps.

As for now you will have to wait for MXit to see if we can build a way round your devices limitations.

    Regards

    Clefty

    Greetings,

    You have three choices....

    1) Live with the phone as it is.

    2) take it to your service provider and ask for a firmware upgrade. But before doing the upgrade you want a guarentee that it will be able to work with JAVA.

    3) Loose the warranty on the phone if you still have one and get it flashed with the standard Sony OS at a normal cell repair place. This is called 'De Branding' your phone which is why your service provider will not do that. It will make the phone look as if it came directly from sony.

If it were my phone I would go with option 3. You can also google around a bit and find out what you would require in order to flash your phone. Like Nokia's you just need the data cable and Nokia PC Suit.

Infact I just googled it for you and yes you can update your firmware via the internet.

    Please goto sony's site http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support ... c=gb&lc=en
    Good Luck

    Regards

    Greetings,

When you update the phone, is it staying 'Branded'? as in does it still say it's from voda or MTN etc?

Goto a reputable cellphone shop in your area and ask them if they have the default SE firmware and ask if it works with JAVA or not. If you explain why you're looking for a firmware upgrade, they will more than likely guarantee it to work or not. That way if it doesn't work more than likely they won't charge.

    Regards

    Greetings,

You need to set your JAVA permissions to allow GPRS activity through a JAVA app. Also JAVA on some phones require that you put in seperate settings for internet access.

On Sony in your JAVA app menu highlight MXit and see what menus are available for it.

Not too sure on where your JAVA settings are on that phone i am afraid, but with this info you should be able to sort the problem out.

i went to the location where the mxit app is installed and selected options > settings > permissions. internet access, messaging, automatic start and multimedia are all set to ask once... would this be the right place?

    Greetings,

Yes that is where you set your permissions. Now if you goto m.mxit.com and when you download MXit you choose "If installation fails, click here" you can set your permissions to never ask, as that is where you download the trusted version of MXit.

Now find your Internet settings, where you choose our APN and such, see if there is an option to set your APN in all applications or if there is one called JAVA internet or something along those lines.

    Regards

    hi guys

i've now managed to get mxit loaded onto my SE K700i, now i don't have the camera functionality on my list of options when chatting to contacts. is this phone also not able to send pics on mxit? also, on another phone, the nokia e66 there's an option for voice recorder but the SE K700i doesn't have that either. also, how do i go about clearing messages on a chat window? there's normally the option > clear messages but i don't see that on my list of options.

here are the options i do have:
add symbol, spell word, writing language, dictionary (t9), word suggestions, my words, help, mxit emoticons, send as sms, back

    alert settings:
i don't have the option to edit general, meeting, silent, etc. i only have one alert profile. is this also normal for this phone?

i have mxit version 5.9.1 and the following info is available:
    i'm a freestyler: no
    connection type : socket
    photo capture: no
    moola top-up: yes
    sms out: yes
    file access: no

why is photo capture set to no when this phone has a camera? i also have no sound....
