    Greetings,

MXit, as you know the client, is not available for the Nokia N900. This phone is Linux based and as of yet MXit has not looked at making a Linux client.

However in the MXit DevZone, there is a client busy being developed which is working.

You can read the posts by another N900 owner HERE

Should you be interested in downloading the client you will need to register for the DevZone HERE

Then you can download the client HERE

    Regards

    Clefty

Hope she doesn't hear you say that, lol.

Guide her over the phone, or MXit when you are chatting. It's not difficult at all to get to the settings and if camera support is "yes" then she can click away. Same for file sharing.

Hey guys, can someone explain to me why there is no file access or photo capture on the Nokia 5310 Xpressmusic. I had a Nokia 5000 and it was able to do all of this.

    Greetings,

File access and Camera access are not decided by MXit, You need to understand it is the phones manufacturer that normally allows the permissions to JAVA apps as to what they have access to and don't.

However on some models it may be necessary to not put that certain feature in to save on the memory footprint of the app. However I have rarely seen MXit take that road.

So more than likely it is nokia who has not given the needed permissions.

    Regards

    Clefty

    Hi,

I just put on my Nokia E72, Vodacom requested if I wanted my settings and I got and saved them all.

So I downloaded MXit via 3G(vodacom live!) -- and it asked me if I want to start MXit and I said yes.

But now MXit only says Installing.... the whole time. Eventually the 3G logo in the top left hand corner, just goes away.

    Any ideas?

    Greetings,

You need to switch off 3G. In SA the 3G is far too unstable for MXit and communication gets lost all the time.

Go to your settings, network settings and switch from UMTS to GSM. Unless your planning on making video calls you're not loosing out on much.

    Regards

    Clefty

Thanks, I remember I had to do that on my old phone. However, when I switched to GSM, it says connection failure. Not mxit, the phone :-( Sniff.

*EDIT* Let me be more specific:

    Connection failure. Error code -7

When I go to my browser to try and download mxit:

packet data not available. check network services.

    web: unable to perform operation

All of this worked up to here, with the Dual option.

    Greetings,

    Let me explain quick......

3G - UMTS = is like ADSL a permanent data connection between you and the cell tower. Even if you do not have your APN settings this data connection is still there. It needs this data connection for video. And it can handle both data and voice at the same time.

2G - GSM = more like a dial up internet. Your phone is there acting more like a MoDem. It needs to be told when to connect and how to connect. It can not handle data and voice at the same time and therefore puts the GPRS signal on hold when you are on a call. Unlike UMTS.

So what does this have to do with you?

Well it's a new phone...... You said you have received your settings, but...... Did you activate them? It's one thing to store the settings and another to activate them.

Goto your settings, connection settings, choose either Vlive, or internet. Then choose 'Activate default in all Apps'

Hope that helps, Please post back if worked or not.

    Regards

    Clefty.
