    How does one save chat logs from inside a privately created chat room?
    Is there a particular interface that needs to be used?

    By default Adium stores all chat logs in the Chat Transcript Viewer

    *To access the transcript viewer --> open adium, select window > Chat Transcript Viewer
    *Message history settings can be adjusted in the general tab of Adium's preference settings (Adium > Preferences)
    *Transcripts are stored in the following location:
    Home folder > library > application support > Adium > users > default > logs
    *Copy chat logs from the above location to anywhere you desire to back up
