    Greetings,

    Image

We are happy to announce that version 5.9 has been made available.

MXit version 5.9 can be downloaded from http://m.mxit.com

You’ll notice we no longer have MXit Elite and, soon, we won’t have MXit Pro. It caused some confusion over which was the ‘better’ version. Truth be told, all versions are great – we just work around what your phone can handle. So we’ve moved back to numbering our versions, starting with MXit 5.9 for phones that can do almost anything. MXit Pro will soon be replaced by MXit 5.9 Lite for those phones that can’t do so much. (http://forum.mxit.com/viewtopic.php?f=177&t=21731)

    Features:

    • Avatar:
A profile picture displayed next to your nickname for your friends to see the REAL you!
    • Status Message:
Tell your friends what you’re doing right now, with your message displayed below your nickname.
    • Improved start up time and improved registration
Registering and logging in to MXit is even faster, for quicker connection to your friends.
    • Animated Emoticons:
Default emoticons with a twist – now animated with emotion!
    • Popup menus with sub menus:
No more full screen menus – NEW popup menus make things lighter and tighter.

Please note that MXit 5.9 will generate more data traffic if Avatars are enbled, but if disabled, the data traffic will only be slightly more to cater for status messages and some other protocol enhancements.

Also note that if you connect through using http, data traffic will be more (even with Avatars disabled) and the response of MXit will be slower. This normally only happens if a network problem prevents MXit from connecting using sockets. You will know when MXit is using http if the logging in message is not "Connecting" followed by "Logging in" but "Connecting" followed by "Opening".

MXit will always first try the most optimum way (sockets) before it tries http.

    Regards,
    MXit_Team

    Greetings,

We have released version 5.9.1 bug fix release which can be downloaded from m.mxit.com.

Please let us know if you find any issues with this version so we can have a look into them.

    Current fixes:

    1. To save bandwidth and memory the biggest profile picture (96x96) is not downloaded by default anymore. It is not saved on the handset either.
It is now downloaded only on demand when More -> View profile is selected, but is discarded when the user logs out.
    2. Many performance improvements: faster scrolling through contacts screen, popup menus and tabs. Menus are painted faster and emoticon and color picker menus are
also much faster. For smoother scrolling, emoticons are now not animated during the scrolling process. Scrolling through the links of the gallery contact is also now faster.
    3. When receiving a message while logging in, the handset won’t freeze anymore. (Experienced on Nokia Series 40 handsets – e.g. 6300, 6234, …)
    4. There should now be less disconnects.
    5. Installing phase does not happen multiple times anymore (experienced on Nokia Series 60 handsets – e.g. Nokia 6670)
    6. Profile pictures (avatars) are now disabled by default. To enable, select Menu -> Settings -> Appearance -> Profile pictures. An
message is then displayed to notify the user that profile pictures may use extra bandwidth.
    7. When downloading a custom emoticon pack, the animated default emoticons do not jump to the end of the list anymore.
    8. No more: ‘Waiting for profile picture to arrive…’ being shown indefinitely.
    9. LG KS360 screen is now redrawn properly when switching between portrait and landscape mode.
    10. Text is now better aligned within the tab control.
    11. The popup menu can now be viewed in skins that have an image for the selection bar.
    12. The last selected item for each menu is now remembered.
    13. The Avatar is placed opposite the GPRS indicator for Sony Ericsson handsets.
    14. Send as SMS works again.
    15. Avatar pictures are now centered correctly in the selection bar for handsets with 128x160 displayes (e.g. Nokia 5200)
    16. 32x32 and 42x29 icon quality has been improved.
    17. The white arrows showing the direction of off screen tabs are back.

    Regards,
    MXit_Team

    Greetings,

We have released version 5.9.2 bug fix release which can be downloaded from m.mxit.com.

Please let us know if you find any issues with this version so we can have a look into them.

    Current fixes:

    1. Nokia 5800: Can now select emoticons and popup menu items better.
    2. Nokia 5800: Page down experience has been improved.
    3. Nokia 6300: No longer freezes when sending and receiving many simultaneous messages
    4. Alert profiles now stay applied to the relevant group or contact.
    5. Long status messages are now handled better
    6. A file can now only be forwarded to one user at a time.
    7. Saving a file to the gallery now works correctly
    8. Clock is now in conversation screen as well.
    9. By popular request, the chat screen is now scrollable again even if scrollbar is not shown.
    10. The client attempts to auto detect the optimal keepalive time to try and keep the network connection open
      and prevent disconnects.
    11. Italic text is now drawn correctly.
    12. Old splash screens are now removed when cleared.

Some of the known issues are:

    1. Nokia 5800: Cannot scroll tabs by clicking on the arrows
    2. Nokia 5800: When using the scroll bar, scrolling continues while the stylus is depressed (even though the scrollbar is not moved)
    3. Sony Ericsson C905: When using inline edit control, after pressing ‘Send’, the ‘Write’ command should appear again. We have not been able to
      reproduce this issue.

    MXit_Team
